Candle magic is one of the simplest forms of magic that requires little ritual and few ceremonial artifacts. The theatrical props of candle magic can be purchased at any department store and its rituals can be practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.

The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative, extra large, or unusually shaped candles may create distractions when the magician wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most magicians prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible.

The type of wax used in a candle can affect its magical properties. Here are the most common types:

Protection Candle Spells

Create Strong Protection Shield

Materials: White candle, red candle, black candle

Procedure:

  1. Imagine a blue ball of energy inside the candles.
  2. Carve the candles as you chant: "Goddess of Three, I call upon thee, To protect from those who wish to harm me Keep them from using thy gift to harm me"
  3. When you finish chanting, imagine the blue ball exploding into lines of blue.
  4. Imagine the lines surrounding you and wrapping you in warm blue energy.
  5. See the blue light as a shield. Know that it is unbreakable.
  6. Think about how it is the Goddess' Light protecting you.
  7. Put the candles someplace where they can burn undisturbed and let them burn themselves out, sending all the energy into your shield.

Best performed during the full moon. For longer effects you can make it a seven-day spell.

Home Protection Spell

Materials: White candle and salt

Procedure:

  1. Place the candle in the middle of the room.
  2. Sprinkle the salt in a circle clockwise around the candle.
  3. Light and say: "Creature of wax Creature of fire Listen to me Hear my desire Cleanse this room By the power of three-And blast away all negativity With harm to none So shall it be"
  4. Leave to burn for at least 1 hour.

Candle Spell to Stop Harassment

Timing: During the waning moon

Materials: Brown candle (an image candle, if possible), parchment paper, honey

Procedure:

  1. Write the person's name on the front and back of the candle.
  2. On a small piece of parchment paper, write: "From now on, (name) will say nothing but sweet words about me and to me. By the power of Aradia, so mote it be!"
  3. Put a drop of honey in the middle of the paper and roll it into a ball.
  4. Heat a knife, pin or your Athame, make a gash in the candle (in its mouth, if it's an image candle) and stuff the paper ball into it.
  5. Let the candle burn a little while every night for an odd number of nights, to a maximum of nine nights.
  6. Throw the remnants into flowing water, but save some candle drippings or ash to sprinkle in the path of your oppressor.

Love Candle Spells

White Candle Spell to Attract Love

Materials: White candle that will burn down in one session, rose thorn from a white rose bush

Procedure:

  1. Prepare an altar and decorate it with things precious to you and to love.
  2. Using a rose thorn, inscribe the words "All my love come to me" 3 times on the candle.
  3. Place the inscribed candle in the center of the altar and light it.
  4. For the entire time the candle burns, gaze upon it and visualize your love coming to you in nakedness and beauty.
  5. When the candle burns out, collect the wax puddle that remains, wrap it up with the mementos from the altar and keep it in a safe place.

Note: The result will not be "combie" or "victim" thrall-love; but you will receive ALL the love that person has for you.

Candles for a Passionate Love Spell

Timing: During a waxing Moon

Materials: Two taper candles (one pink and one red), red thread, jasmine oil

Procedure:

  1. Anoint the candles with jasmine oil using your fingertips.
  2. Light them while visualizing the flames of passion growing between yourself and new, but yet unknown, love.
  3. Link the candles together by making a figure eight between them with the thread while repeating: "Flames of passion and seeds of romance grow; I open my heart to love. Now the one who seeks me shall come."

For best results, enact the spell on three consecutive nights.

Adoration Candle Magick

Timing: Friday (day of Aphrodite)

Materials: Two red candles, rose essential oil

Procedure:

  1. Rub the two candles with rose essential oil.
  2. Write your name on one candle, and your beloved's on the other. If you do not know his or her name, simply write "my beloved" or "my true love".
  3. Each evening at seven, light the candles and move them slightly closer together.
  4. Carve into your candle a word of special significance to you.
  5. Meditate on this quality for several minutes, then snuff out the candles.
  6. Repeat this for seven nights, using a different quality each time, until on the seventh, both candles are finally standing as close together as possible.
  7. Light them and let them burn down and out. If any wax remains, scatter it before you as you walk through a beautiful place.

Money & Prosperity Candle Spells

Prosperity Spell

Timing: Begin at one minute past midnight on the night of April 30 (May 1), July 31 (Aug 1), Oct 31 (Nov 1) and Jan 31 (Feb 1)

Materials: 1 gold candle, 6 green candles, 9 white candles, pine oil, salt

Procedure:

  1. Dress all candles with pine oil.
  2. Arrange as follows: Gold candle in the center. Green candles in a circle around gold candle. White candles in a circle around green candles.
  3. At one minute past midnight on the appointed day, trace or salt circle around the outermost circle of candles.
  4. Light the gold candle first, then the green candles, moving clockwise, then the white candles, moving clockwise.
  5. Circle the altar three times, chanting: "Orbiting Jupiter trine the sun, bring money on the run."
  6. Do the chant 3 times. Sit quietly for a few minutes and visualize your monetary needs.
  7. Then snuff (do not blow or pinch) the candles in reverse order.

New Job Candle Burning Magick

Materials: Goddess Candle, God Candle, Incense, Green Candle, Good Luck Oil, Black Candle, Banishing Oil, Petitioner Candle

Procedure:

  1. Build your altar. Place the Petitioner candle beneath the Goddess candle and place the green and black candles beneath the God candle.
  2. Light the incense.
  3. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil and say: "Empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me. As this candle burns, let its power equally all obstacles in my way. Leaving my path clear for success." Light the black candle.
  4. Anoint green candle with good luck oil and say: "Empower this candle to bring me good luck, prosperity and success in acquiring a new and better job. As this candle burns, so might it be a beacon for good fortune and prosperity." Light the green candle.
  5. Focus strongly on the petitioner as you light their candle, saying: "As this candle represents [name], let it be a beacon for positive forces and energies. As this candle burns bright, so does the light of [name]'s heart burn bright with ambition and desire for a new, better job."
  6. Concentrate, directing your power to the petitioner candle, which is receiving the energy from the green candle that is burning.
  7. After ten minutes or so of concentration, extinguish the candles in the reverse order in which you lit them.
  8. Each day, repeat the spell, moving the green candle two inches closer to the petitioner. Your spell is complete when the two candles touch.

Healing Candle Spells

Healing Candle Spell

Materials: 7 candles - one white (for the Lady), one yellow (for the Lord), one orange, one for yourself according to your astral color, and three red candles

Procedure:

  1. Light the Lord and Lady candles first then light incense if using.
  2. Sit for a few moments and think of goodness and health coming into you.
  3. Light the petitioner's candle and picture the person and say: "Here is ______ in excellent health. Blessings from the Lord & Lady be upon him."
  4. Light the orange candle and say: "This flame draws all that is good to ______. It draws health and strength and all he desires."
  5. Light red candles saying: "Here is health and strength three fold. Take into ______ to serve and build him as the Lord and Lady would wish."
  6. Sit and meditate on your good health and desire.
  7. Extinguish the candles.
  8. Repeat this every Friday for 7 days, each time moving the red candles closer to the petitioner candle. On the 7th Friday they should touch the petitioner's candle.

Healing Fire Candle Spell

Materials: Three Purple Candles, Three Blue Candles, Photograph of yourself

Procedure:

  1. Place the candles in a circle around the photograph.
  2. Charge each candle individually: "I charge you by the powers of The East, South, West, and North; I charge you by the powers of The Earth, Air, Fire and Water. I charge you by the powers of The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars: To heal me of this disease (or ailment) its causes and its manifestations. So mote it be!"
  3. Now, after you light each candle, say: "Burn the sickness in your flame Burn the sickness that would maim. Burn the illness by your might Burn the illness in your light. Heal me of illness and pain Heal me of all that is bane. Heal me and set me free with my will so must it be!"

Do this spell as many nights in a row that you need to.

Sinus-Clearing Candle

Materials: Small votive candle holder, green candles, fresh garlic, spike from an aloe plant, handful of cloves

Procedure:

  1. Melt green candles into the holder.
  2. Add a large amount of fresh garlic, aloe spike, and cloves.
  3. Melt all these into the candle carefully.
  4. Leave overnight for the wax to dry.
  5. Then, burn. This is an effective form of aromatherapy.

Zodiac Candle Spell

Find out the subject's birth date and use the appropriate candle for that zodiacal sign:

  3. Repeat three times out loud.
  4. Let the candle burn all the way down, concentrating on the flame burning down the candle and bringing protection around you.
  5. Give thanks and end the rite.

Spell to Change Fate (Wishing Candle Spell)

Warning: Changing fate may make some parts of your life stronger, yet other parts weaker.

Materials: A special candle chosen especially for the spell, a pentacle with corresponding symbols like Saturn and symbols of what you wish to change written on it, a black candle smaller than the special candle (wishing candle)

Procedure:

  1. Set up altar with the four candles in each corner, and in the center put the pentacle and the wishing candle over it.
  2. Wait to do the spell until the full moon, at night where the stars are in full view.
  3. On the new moon, look unto the sky for the 7 brightest stars.
  4. Hold up a lighter and say/chant: "I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish this night. For change of ... this night I ask, and by the flame, I ask it last. Seven brightest stars in the sky, light the flame I hold high."
  5. With this light your lighter, light the wishing candle, and light the little candles in its flame.
  6. Now go about business as usual.

Materials: White candle, personal item or photo of the missing person, lavender oil

Procedure:

  1. Anoint the candle with lavender oil from top to bottom.
  2. Place the personal item or photo near the candle.
  3. Light the candle and say: "By light of flame and power divine, reveal to me where [name] does lie. Safe and sound may they be found, by this light their path is bound."

Materials: Two identical candles (one for yes, one for no), holders, matches

Procedure:

  1. Set up the candles in holders in an area free of breezes.
